Revamped menu at Miner's Arms, Whitecroft

THIS busy village pub nestling next to the Forest’s steam railway offers excellent value for money with generous size portions.

Hosts Karen and Mario Constantinides create a relaxed atmosphere in a typical Greek fashion in a clean, part olde worlde pub and modern in the large conservatory.

A full-of-flavour starter of hot English smoked trout on baby leaf salad was thoroughly enjoyable. This would have made a great choice for a light lunch on its own.

Going Greek for the main course I was dished up with a full plate of beef stifado – cubes of beef slow-cooked in a slightly spicy sauce, with mushrooms served in rice, my choice and salad.
The rice was cooked well, free flowing but not dried up, how I hate soggy rice!

With most of the food coming from local suppliers, the emphasis is on fresh, with the menu changing often.

For the sweet-toothed a portion of strawberry and white chocolate cheesecake wrapped up my visit, where it is plain to see that Mario runs his restaurant with a passion for both food and service.
